Dear HR Officer,
My name is <redacted> and I’m currently a junior at Dartmouth College pursuing a major in Computer Science and a minor in Economics. I have had the opportunity to attend Credit Suisse’s INSPIRE event in Boston last October and was very impressed with the firm’s strong presence in Asia and its emphasis on learning for incoming analysts. As someone originally from Vietnam, I am interested in the Summer Analyst position for the Investment Banking team in the Singapore office, and have enclosed my information below for your consideration.
I have previously completed a summer internship with Horizon Capital Group, a $200M private equity fund based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This internship entailed performing financial modeling to value companies and compiling market news to update the Managing Partner and Vice Presidents. My work culminated in an independent project to identify a company for an investment recommendation. In 2 weeks, I looked into 50 Vietnamese companies with market caps of over $80M and finally selected a jewelry company for investment recommendation. I then evaluated the company by building a three-statement operating model and comps analyses considering other leading jewelry companies in Asia and the world.
Despite my previous background in finance, I am well aware that an internship with Credit Suisse will entail a steep learning curve. I greatly enjoyed the investment banking and sales & trading workshops at INSPIRE, and I believe that I have both the drive to succeed and the humility to appreciate and take advantage of the learning opportunities that the job can offer. Given my experience, I believe I am a particularly good fit for your Summer Analyst position. I hope you will find me well qualified for this position and I would like to reiterate my strong interest to discuss my qualifications with you further.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Spring Insight Programme
As someone who aspires for a successful career in the Investment Banking Industry, Credit Suisse has always appealed to me with its 157 years of globally recognised excellence and its scale of having operations in more than 50 countries. Although attending Credit Suisse’s interactive workshop has deepened this attraction even more, it also changed my perception. Upon listening to Mr Ballman’s presentation I was deeply captivated by Credit Suisse’s collaborative culture. Whilst Mr Hudson’s product control activity not only replicated Credit Suisse’s exciting fast-paced environment; the willingness of the staff in offering explicit help also demonstrated its commitment in promoting and developing young talent. These attractions then resulted in my decision of joining Credit Suisse not only because of its prestigious reputation, but more importantly, because of its supportive culture.
I am applying to Spring Insight because I think a career in the investment banking industry is very exciting; due to the constant challenges proposed by the unpredictable financial markets, and the world changing possibilities of its decisions. Hence I want to grasp this unique opportunity to discover my place, and the skills needed for success in this fascinating industry. The Credit Suisse programme attracts me especially because of the intriguing involvements of its divisions. An example is the Investment Banking division’s one-bank business model. This innovative approach interests me because of its success in producing personalised solutions, allowing the division to receive awards from numerous financial publications such as Euromoney and The Asset. Having recently learnt the basics of preparing consolidated financial statements, I am also excited to see the application of this and other aspects of my course through the Finance division. Being someone who always welcomes challenges, an insight into global operations is also personally attractive. This is due to its intense role in ensuring the confirmation and settlement of all trades, enabling Credit Suisse to earn its impressive net income attributable to shareholders of 1,349 million CHF at the year ending 2012.
I appreciate the value of this opportunity and am enthusiastic about receiving an exposure to the business areas within the investment banking industry. Thank you for taking the time to consider my application, I look forward to meeting you to discuss it further.
